Alfalfa mosaic virus (AMV) is a ubiquitous and highly polyphagous virus (figure 1) that can occur in all tobacco producing countries. In several countries the virus incidence is seldom severe. This virus is not considered a major problem on tobacco.

In France, AMV is found sporadically in all production areas and it does not cause significant damage, except when tobacco is planted adjacent to alfalfa crops that contain infected plants.
